October Steel Shipments Up 5.2 Percent from September, Up 11.5 Percent from Prior Year

The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported today that for the month of October 2013, U.S. steel mills shipped 8,287,553 net tons, a 5.2 percent increase f-rom the 7,879,747 net tons shipped in the previous month, September 2013, and a 11.5 percent increase f-rom the 7,430,267 net tons shipped in October 2012. Shipments year-to-date in 2013 are 80,186,360 net tons, a 1.1 percent decrease vs. 2012 shipments of 81,068,394 net tons for ten months.

A comparison of October shipments to the previous month of September shows the following changes: hot dipped galvanized sheets and strip, up eight percent, cold rolled sheet, up seven percent and hot rolled sheet, up one percent.
